Advising

teaching with TT

YOUR ROLE

As part of an advisory panel team, consisting of yourself, as lead or co-advisor, you will meet regularly while we are in session, usually on Zoom. Please see the calendar for details.

Team members are colleagues. There is no hierarchy. Each has their role. The student will lead the project. The Lead Advisor will act as a liaison between the student and the Institute to achieve the milestones and student's research agenda. The co-advisor will provide a third voice.

PhD advisement is generally a three year commitment full-time or six years part-time.

MEETINGS

To put things in context, students meet monthly for intensive sessions, either in person or by Zoom and in independent cluster research groups.

Team meetings take place every month we are in session. Choosing a fixed monthly time and date for these meetings is highly recommended. Each term in the first year, meetings with all team members take place the first month. The student will alternate meetings with advisors for the remaining months.

Meetings consist of one hour of discourse and up to two hours of prep, reading, reviewing the project, etc.

PRE-ADVISEMENT

Applicants will list in their Expression of Interest (EOI) submission advisors from our pool or externally with which they see similar research interests and we will also make additional suggestions. You will be sent the EOI and invited to arrange with a potential student to discuss the possibility of working together. Once you’ve had the meeting, please respond to the invitation confirming or passing on the advisement.

Once the team has been agreed upon, the applicant will refine the proposal, register with it and the team will submit a team agreement form.

Advisory pool

If you are new to Transart, you will be invited to complete a profile form, which will enable you to be added to the TT People Advisor Pool. You will then be sent a link to review your online profile and can let us know if any adjustments are needed. You can always update your information at any time via the Profile Change form linked here. Once you have been added to TT People other applicants with shared research interests will have the opportunity to request working with you.
